Derek “Deek” Diedricksen is a designer, builder, tv show host for the DIY Network, and traveling presenter for the Tumbleweed Tiny House Company. He is well known for his artistic and functional creations, most entirely created from free and recycled goods. Derek’s work has been featured in the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, The History Channel, UK Daily News, and beyond.
Derek’s specialty is free-form/alternative design and construction, particularly with small and mobile shelters and dwellings. The author of “Humble Homes, Simple Shacks” (which spent 20 weeks as Amazon’s #1 ranked carpentry book worldwide), Derek also hosts/directs/produces his own youtube series “Tiny Yellow House” (also carried by NYC’s MAKE Magazine), and runs the blogs Relaxshacks.com, as well as FortaDay.com. He has spoken and had his work displayed at M.I.T., Walden Woods, NYC’s Maker Faire (where he won a “Best In Show”), Chicago University, and beyond.
Derek has hosted a dozen two-day workshops nationally for the Tumbleweed Tiny House Company, ranging from Miami to Seattle, and has additionally organized and hosted several hands-on building workshops, all of which have brought in sold out attendances.
